MENTORING THROUGH LITERACY

Improve literacy by enlisting trained mentors  to help struggling Black and Latino readers.

The work to dramatically improve outcomes for Boys and Young Men of Color will not be successful without the support of the community. DCPS is committed to providing mentors to students using literacy as a vehicle to build positive relationships, increase the percentage of boys of color reading at grade level by 4th grade, and support our amazing teachers. Local community partners, utilizing research-based approaches to literacy instruction, will train all mentors to effectively help struggling readers and challenge exceptional readers.
